Natural penicillins. Diseases that are treated primarily with penicillin antibiotics include tonsillopharyngitis, scarlet fever, erysipelas, community-acquired pneumonia, meningitis, sepsis, meningococcal infections, syphilis, leptospirosis, tick-borne borreliosis, gas gangrene, and actinomycosis. There are antibiotics that need to be taken several times a day, and there are those that are taken once a month. They have a prolonged effect. Since long-acting penicillins do not provide high enough concentrations in the blood and practically do not pass through the blood-brain barrier, they are not used for the treatment of severe neuroinfections. Indications for their use are limited to the treatment of tonsillopharyngitis and syphilis (in addition to neurosyphilis), with the prevention of erysipelas, scarlet fever and sciatica. Phenoxymethylpenicillin is recommended for use in lung diseases and mild streptococcal infections.
